Designed to signal the body to encourage rapid tissue remodeling, the Biodesign grafts strike a critical balance of strength and flexibility that achieve aesthetically pleasing results.

Introduced at the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) annual meeting, both products leverage the proven Biodesign technology platform which has, to date, been used in more than one million patient treatments across nine procedural areas in 96 countries.

What Is It?

The Biodesign Nipple Reconstruction Cylinder® is a first-of-its-kind product, providing a scaffold for re-establishing a nipple projection, historically viewed as a challenge for nipple reconstruction procedures. The nipple reconstruction cylinder gives natural thickness and feel to projections giving physicians the ability to comprehensively complete the reconstruction process.

The Biodesign Nipple Reconstruction Cylinder®  is intended for implantation to reinforce soft tissue where weakness exists in patients requiring soft tissue repair or reinforcement in plastic and reconstructive surgery. The cylinder is supplied sterile and is intended for one time use. After surgery, the patient wears a nipple shield to protect and support the reconstructed nipple.

Dr. Jeremy Z. Williams and Dr. Christopher G. Williams are currently participating in a study for The Biodesign Nipple Reconstruction Cylinder®. At Park Meadows Cosmetic Surgery, are committed to staying at the forefront of plastic surgical technologies and procedures related to breast reconstruction and other cosmetic applications.

Who Is an Ideal Candidate for The Biodesign Nipple Reconstruction Cylinder®?

It's quite common for surgeons to perform nipple-sparing mastectomies that preserve the nipple. However, there are still some cases where a nipple-sparing procedure is not advisable.

In those situations, nipple reconstruction with the Biodesign Nipple Reconstruction Cylinder® may be ideal. It's a good option for women who want to recreate the look and projection of their nipples during their breast reconstruction journey. Our team will gladly evaluate your candidacy.

How Does the Reconstruction Process Work With Biodesign?

The Biodesign Nipple Reconstruction Cylinder® can be used with a variety of nipple reconstruction techniques. These techniques may include options such as skin flap, skin graft, and nipple sharing. Our doctors will provide a detailed overview of your specific surgical plan.

In many cases, our breast reconstruction surgeons will determine the size and position of the new nipple. Then, they will create skin flaps and secure them around the Biodesign Nipple Reconstruction Cylinder®. Finally, they will close the incisions and place a protective nipple cover. However, the exact steps can vary depending on the situation and chosen technique.

What Is the Recovery Process Like?

You will leave your nipple reconstruction surgery with a protective nipple cover in place. This cover should be worn continuously for approximately six weeks. At that point, you may be instructed to wear it at night for another three weeks. This will help ensure proper healing. Similarly, you will need to avoid wearing overly tight shirts or bras during the recovery phase.

Will My Results With Biodesign Look Natural?

The majority of patients find that nipple reconstruction helps them feel satisfied with their results and improves their body image. One study found that ninety-eight percent of patients recommended nipple reconstruction surgery following mastectomy. The Biodesign Nipple Reconstruction Cylinder® helps achieve the desired aesthetic by providing crucial support.

Keep in mind that your nipples may initially look larger or redder than you had imagined. It takes time for swelling to subside after nipple reconstruction surgery. Your final results won’t be visible for at least four months. At that point, your nipples should have a more lifelike appearance.

Is the Procedure Painful?

Nipple reconstruction isn’t a painful procedure. In fact, it’s a minor operation that typically requires a local anesthetic. You may feel a slight pinch when the anesthetic is administered. However, it’s very normal to experience diminished breast sensation after mastectomy.
