How Long is the Recovery from Breast Reconstruction?

For many patients, the recovery from breast reconstruction can last several weeks altogether. The exact nature of the recovery can vary because there are multiple surgical techniques that can be used. Our experienced breast reconstruction surgeons will make sure you know what to expect from the recovery so you can make important decisions about the procedure.

The most common complaints after breast reconstruction surgery are feeling extremely tired and feeling sore, especially during the tissue expansion phas. However, our plastic surgeons may prescribe pain medication that will help you through the recovery process if necessary, or we may recommend an over-the-counter pain medication.

With breast reconstruction, you can generally expect the following:

  • Possibly a hospital stay of several days
  • The need to wear support garments after your surgery
  • Bruising that will gradually heal over time

The process of recovering from breast reconstruction is different for everyone. Following the instructions we provide should help ensure your recovery process is as quick as possible. You will have several follow-up appointments so that your progress can be periodically checked.

Please contact The Breast Center at Park Meadows Cosmetic Surgery to schedule an initial appointment. If you are located in Colorado, we hope to meet with you in person to discuss the process of recovering from breast reconstruction.
